I was born and raised in Nelson and have just returned to the area to join the team at Zindels. I graduated from Canterbury University in April 2014 with a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Commerce, the latter with a major of Human Resources, and was admitted to the Bar at the Nelson High Court in August 2014.
I have always enjoyed working in a people rich environment and that is what brought me to a career in the law. Throughout university I was involved in many law volunteer roles where I was able to see the importance of access to justice. Working in these roles allowed me to work with people from all different backgrounds and helped me to understand the importance of the law in people’s everyday lives. I endeavour always to explain the law clearly so that people may understand their rights and responsibilities.
Having studied Human Resources alongside my law degree, I have a natural interest in employment law. It is an area of the law that affects people on an everyday basis, yet there is a lot of misunderstandings about the law here. Many of the issues that arise in employment law could have been resolved by open communication and proper process.
I am also available for criminal cases and can help prepare limited licences.
I have a great interest in family law which stems from growing up with parents who are educators and who work closely with families. As well as the usual family law matters, I can also prepare wills, enduring powers of attorney documents (to look after someone’s affairs if there is incapacity or absence) and probate documents (after somebody has died).
